The Mine of Montevecchio

Montevecchio and the Geo-Mineral Park

The mining area of Montevecchio is part of the Geo-Mineral Park of Sardinia; the structures that one finds here are testimony to the extracting activities carried out here from 1848 until 1991.

Today Montevecchio offers ample spaces which, recuperated from the mining industry, acquire new life, offering themselves to the tourist as stable and temporary exhibition spaces: places of meeting for exhibitions, festivals, shows and cultural events of all types.

There is the possibility of taking excursions by foot or mountain-bike along the historic mining paths, signed and prepared by the CAI and by the tourist associations which operate in the area. Along these routes it is possible to come across Corsican Red Deer in their natural environment: forests of holly oak and cork, or the typical Mediterranean scrub, made up of mastic, broom, strawberry trees and other typical shrubs.
